Parties "en Plein Air"
Located on the banks of the Lieutenant
River in Old Lyme, CT, the Florence Griswold Museum offers a
captivating setting for your special event. Come see what drew the
American Impressionist artists to paint en plein air - in the open air-
along the river or in our gardens. You'll be as charmed as they were by
the beauty of the landscape.
Centrally located between New York and
Boston, Old Lyme has been a favorite meeting ground for over a century.
Since 1899, when the first artist appeared at "Miss Florence's"
boarding house, visitors have been enchanted by the picturesque
shoreline, rolling pastures and quintessential New England village
setting that is Old Lyme.
The Museum is located in the
heart of the village's historic district. It is home to one of America's
most famous art colonies and the best-known center
of impressionist painting. The historic site encompasses 11 acres along
the Lieutenant River, The Hartman Education Center, gardens, a restored
artist's studio, the 1817 Griswold House and Museum and the Robert and Nancy Krieble Gallery, our 9,000 square foot riverfront gallery.
We can accommodate private
and corporate events for 20 or up to 200. Tours may be included by special arrangement.
On the banks of the
Lieutenant River
Large parties may be held
outdoors "en plein air" under a tent in the Courtyard of the
new Krieble Gallery, on the banks of the Lieutenant River. Small parties
or corporate events may be held on the first floor of Marshfield House, or outside on the covered wrap-around porch. The
changing seasons provide a constantly changing palette of colors. Your
event, held at the home of American Impressionism will no doubt leave a
lasting impression on your guests.
